Faro Scene 6.2 repeatedly crashing

Post by alannic »

I am trying to register 2 or 3 clusters together for various floors of a building. The cluster registered fine within themselves but everytime I go to register the clusters together Scene just crashes out. I have tried this on two separate computers in two separate projects and it does it in both of them. If I had any hair left I would be pulling it out by now. Anyone else had the same or know of a condition that causes it.
I am running Scene 6.2.4.30.

How large are the clusters? I assume this is a C2C registration. Keep an eye on your CPU usage and RAM during registration and loading up scans. You can also try target basing to get a registration between clusters by selecting like planes between clusters in the 1-2 correspondence view, forcing correspondences, and using the "badly distributed" slider all the way left between the clusters if you absolutely have to.

Hi Caleb
Thanks for the help. The clusters are about 8 scans each. It is a C2C registration. I set up the correspondences between them using spheres and planes and its when I hit the register button that Scene crashes. I will try slipping the slider to the left. have this on 2 computers at the moment with different projects. Other bigger projects have gone straight through. These are quite simple house surveys.
Regards
Alan

Hello everybody,

I'm in a big hurry, possibly going to lose my job for this issue...

I have an issue with SCENE 6.2
I'm not shure wether is me or the software.

Recently I took 60 scans, with FARO FOCUS 3D, in order to optimize time and results I took away the "scann with color" option, as a result the scanner was not taking the usual high res. picture at the end of each scan.

Auto registration does not work, and when I try to manually registrate those scans I cannot set any target, even the point cloud generated for each single scan is curvy, sfere like.

Is there a solution for this?

Thank you very much for your time.

Nicola

Have you preprocessed the scans? Curvy sphere like pointclouds could be due to removal of distance data (i.e. distance filtering removing all points beyond a certain distance from the scanner).

You should be able to mark checkerboard targets from intensity view anyways.

Try locking the each of the clusters before C/C the clusters together

A screenshot would certainly be helpful to identify the issue at hand.

Hi everybody, thx a lot for your posts!

Lukly the FARO assistence helped me getting trough it, the error was generated due to 2 facts.

1. Raw scans had to be imported by drag and drop, and not directly from the SD.
2. The progect needed to be saved after the first import operation.

Regarding the crushing, setting the nvida to full performances helps a lot, I crush 50-60% less now.

I'm quite a new entry in the laserscanning world. Can you guys pls tell me the perfect workflow to maximise precision and time in order to aquire buildings point clouds?
Can you recomend me the best program in order to generate 3d meshes from those point clouds? manually underlining points it's quite slow and eyeskilling.

I was looking for 3D reshaper in order to do that, but it's quite expansive and I'm not shure about the results.

Cheers,

Nicola

Workflow depends on your available time, project requirements, skill, and computing equipment.

Scene 6.2+ will mesh satisfactorily in most cases (may also be supported in 6.1 but I can't remember at the moment).

Well, I understand, what I was refering is like some tricks to avoid cloud noise, optimize registration,... never had a satisfying automatic registration for example and I always have 3+sfere at 5-6 m.

- My skill are not so bad so far, ofc I can and I'll improve.
- Time is always little.
