Deleting points in Scene. Is it possible?
Hi,
Just one quick question: Is there a way of cleaning the workspace of all the useless points of a scanning and leaving only the necessary ones? (Example: I am scanning just one building, i don't need the whole street, but somehow it is already scanned and i don't figure a way of getting rid of all that "garbage").
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Sorry, problem solved... after 5 hours of searching a way of doing it, ten minutes after posting this i've found it.

Re: Deleting points in Scene. Is it possible?
You can delete the points, just make sure that in "tools/options/scan data" you select the "save modified scan data". Then fence and delete the area you want removed and while those modified scans are open, save the workspace. This will save the fls files in the current state (deleting the erroneous data). I always have a backup of the original fls files saved in case we need to retrieve the info later.

Don't suppose you could expand a little on how you managed to do it?
I only seem able to delete data in planar view not 3d view, the select rectangle etc are all greyed out along with the delete scan points command.
Any help greatly appreciated.

to delete points in 3D view you must use the polygonal selection tool, the rectangular, circular or linear will not be available

Yep..tried that...whilst I can trace a yellow line it never closes....I right click and the polygon disappears...I press enter and nothing happens...weird!

If I remember right, it is double left click to close it.

Re: Deleting points in Scene. Is it possible?
Fantastic.
Many thanks for your help....Indeed a double left click to close the polygon...then right click to delete inside or out.
Its a shame that the guys at Faro don't know how to do this...
"Dear Paul,
you are not able to select and delete scan points in 3D View as this is only an optional view of the current planar view.
The main changes must be done in the planar view and then the 3D view must be reopened.
Please feel free to contact me for any further questions / Für Rückfragen stehe ich Ihnen gerne zur Verfügung" ha ha ha

I have same issue, and even when I double click still does not close the polygon...come back CAD where everything is easyPaul.Williams wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:11 pm Yep..tried that...whilst I can trace a yellow line it never closes....I right click and the polygon disappears...I press enter and nothing happens...weird!
Perhaps I need the scans to be loaded for this to work....sleuthing continues

Re: Deleting points in Scene. Is it possible?
Joel,
Try the blue polygonal selection tool when using 'scan points' -look for the subscript '3' instead of the green square(s) for each scan position. The yellow polygonal selection tool only works for the default 3D window when the scans are first loaded (green squares). I often delete unwanted points after registration using the yellow polygonal selection tool, however, because it's a bit more responsive than the blue one for 'scan points'. Be careful to 'unload' the scans if you see the subscript '3' -it's possible to have both active (no green squares should be showing). Intuitive, isn't it?
P.S. This is from Scene 'classic', - the workflow is different in current versions of Scene, but I believe the classic version is still an option.
