Funfact: Without an open project I can get my CPU to 100%
If I open only 9 instances of SCENE, my CPU load is at 100%.
SCENE should need nothing since it is doing NOTHING...
Newest version btw
Application Version: 2021.0.0.6941 (9.0.0.6941)
License Version: 2021.0
API Version: 2.0.23.6941
Want to hear another fun fact?
If I am in the field doing On-Site Registration, I minimize SCENE and connect via Firefox to the Scanner interface because it needs less GPU load this way...(And around 10°C less on the GPU)

Agreed entirely, and I say that as a software author. What does seem to vary a fair bit however is how long the gap is between the problem being reported and the fix being issued, and whether bugs are in new functionality or there are serious breaks to common existing workflows. e.g. Something like opening 9 instances of Faro Scene and observing 100% processor usage is a bug but probably isn't going to break too many existing work flows. Be interesting to see how long it takes before it is addressed.

Hello!
We are aware of a bug in the Quality Manager, which can block a full CPU core because of "busy waiting". The issue is already fixed and the new version will be shipped with the next update.
If that is the problem you are experiencing, I can offer three workarounds:
* Disable the Quality Manager in the App manager (if you do not require it)
* Open the Quality Manager window once after SCENE starts (fixes the issue only temporary for that instance of SCENE)
* Contact me via PM and I can provide the new and fixed version of the Quality Manager app
The other issue with On-Site registration is probably not related to this. Our embedded browser is just not as efficient as the dedicated ones, so your method is a good tip if you need maximum battery life and perfomance.
Best regards,
Manuel

Does Scene still max out a GPU rendering it's useless progress bar like it did a couple years ago?
https://www.laserscanningforum.com/foru ... bar#p79663
A progress bar which, by the way, doesn't actually indicate progress and provides exactly zero information to the user.

Faro definitely stole that from Cyclone. It used to be called the " Calculating Normals on import" Bar.jedfrechette wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 5:39 pm A progress bar which, by the way, doesn't actually indicate progress and provides exactly zero information to the user.
It could take Minutes...or Days. The progress bar would reach then end, then simply start again .

Re: Funfact: Without an open project I can get my CPU to 100%
SCENE 2020.0.7 and newer should no longer do this. I greatly reduced the update rate for the progress animation and spinner. I also removed the useless "nightrider" effect in the top right corner in one of the buttons. Together this reduced the idle CPU load with an active spinner from around 8-10% to 1-2% (on my system).jedfrechette wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 5:39 pmDoes Scene still max out a GPU rendering it's useless progress bar like it did a couple years ago?

Thank you!
Now 10 instances idle only at 11% CPU load.
