Hi All,
We currently have 4 Scene dongle locked licenses spread across 3 offices in different cities and are considering moving to network based licenses to allow for greater sharing between our offices utilising Faro scanners. The one problem we can foresee is that occasionally we will have to conduct work outside of internet coverage areas or in remote locations and thusly may not be able to reach the network license server.
Who else is currently utilising a network license server for SCENE?
If yes? How does it perform?
If yes? Do you have the ability to "borrow" a license before leaving the network and maintain it over a period of time?
Any and all information and feedback is appreciated.
Cheers,
Lachlan.

Re: Scene Network License
We use network licenses for Scene. It's just a standard Gemalto Sentinel license server. I believe Faro only includes instructions for setting it up on a Windows host, but we're running it on a linux VM and it works great. I pretty much never need to think about it (as it should be). I just checked and the current uptime is 110 days.
Although Sentinel supports borrowing licenses I don't believe Faro turns that feature on for their licenses, which is unfortunate. However, the license is still tied to a dongle so in a pinch you could always unplug the dongle and take it with you. Luckily we haven't needed to deal with that much so as long as we have VPN access to the host everything is pretty seamless.

We allow license borrowing for FARO SCENE and As-Built Software. See here how it works:jedfrechette wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:54 pm We use network licenses for Scene.
