Cyclone 2022.1 very poor release compared to earlier versions

Post by jsbcf »

Hi All,

Just checking to see if I am an isolated case or if there are more users out there experiencing the same as I do. My workstation was recently upgraded to the following:

12th Gen i9 12900KF
64gb ram
RTX 3090ti
Windows 11 version 21H2

After installing the latest version of Cyclone (because of the upgrade to windows 11), I have had very unstable results when working with my projects. Here is a small list of what I'm experiencing:

1. When opening a modelspace 9/10 times the window will be white and I will need to close it down and try again 4 or 5 times before the modelspace will open properly.

2. Opening a True space will always crash the program. Activating Truspace from Cloudworx will always crash cyclone as well. Combined with the long startup times this always sucks

3. Takes a very long time to open cyclone sometimes several minutes.

4. I use 3 monitors and the fluidity while moving around the cloud is very jumpy. I have a 3090ti! This should not be happening.

5. Random crashing when zooming in or out. Combined with the long startup times this always sucks.

Anyway, I'm just very frustrated with this release and needed to vent.

I'm going to try uninstall and reinstall with the hope of fixing some problems.

Cheers.

Personal opinion, not really an answear.

I think you should go back to win 10.

Wish I could but the "Man" says I need to use Windows 11.

sad to hear, but badam might be right, using the same version of Cyclone on Win10 and experienced none of the issues you mentioned above (although others :D )

Mh this sounds a little bit like your graphic card drivers are not properly installed.
I would try to install them from the NVidia site (and check all other drivers as well), because quite possibly the ones included in windows 11 might not be up to date with the official release ones from the hardware vendors.

My experience is the complete opposite! This seems to be the most stable version that I have used. I am using Windows 10 though.

As others have said, it could be a graphics driver issue - I had that white screen problem, but it went away when I upgraded the Nvidia drivers. I do get a 'load issue' warning on import, but just ignore it and everything is fine.

I am using Win10 and latest nVidia drivers - again, most stable version I have used (on an aging 4 year old laptop).

Are they all running at 4k resolution? GPU rendering performance can be a function of the total number of pixels in the display area combined with the available GPU memory and cores. If there is a CPU software aspect to the rendering it can be similar. As Martin mentioned, make sure you have the latest video card drivers for Windows 11 from the nVidia site. You can also look at the performance panes in task manager to figure out where the bottleneck is, i.e. GPU, CPU, memory, disk or network.

Were you already running Windows 11 on the previous version of Cylone without problems? If so, it is a Cyclone release issue, if not, it is more likely a Windows 11 compatibility and/or driver issue?

Great to hear about the stability! Thank you all for your suggestions. I went ahead and updated my GPU drivers to the latest (516.94). For those of you who are having positive results, would it be possible to share some screenshots of your default cyclone settings? I know there are several tabs but it may be a good benchmark for my setup. Maybe I have something set just completely inappropriate and that's why I'm having such troubles.

Thanks!

Got me a brand new box .. therefore Windows 11.

Orbiting etc is slow. Really poor frame rate - probably about 2 fps, it is pretty much unusable.

Seems CPU-bound - all cores are maxed out just spinning around the modelspace, and not a big one.

Is a 4K monitor (single), but similar settings (Cyclone) on Windows 10 on inferior hardware with 4K was absolutely no issue - also tried reduced resolution - no change.

Typical Nvidia set up as well, turned off on-board graphics etc.

Anyone else find a setting or two to optimise/improve?

Tried all sorts of settings memory isolation, hardware GPU scheduling, various game bar/Nvidia settings - haven't found anything that mitigates.
