Since I have not seen any official information about a critical bug in Register 360 and after receiving confirmation from Leica that there is indeed a bug I feel it is only fair to warn anyone using a combination of Register 360 and BLK 360. The bug in question results in poor registration during the exporting of pointclouds to the E57 format. This even though the registration inside the softare is good and exporting to .LGS or .jsv is fine. The bug apparently is caused by the "tilt information from the scanner not being treated correctly. According to my source the bug is fixed in the coming version of the software -due soon as I understand. If you use a workflow which involves exporting via E57 perhaps check the quality of the export?
I am more than a little upset that such a critical bug is known but not communicated to customers as I can potentially see very expensive/disastrous consequences?

Re: Critical bug in Register 360
Can you describe the effect of the bug in more detail? I'd like to check a couple of my BLK360 clouds as well. Does the tilt affect the whole e57 cloud or individual scans within the cloud?

Re: Critical bug in Register 360
The setups loose registration with respect to each other resulting in “tilts” -in my case only a degree or so -but enough to be obvious if you make thin vertical slices through the cloud. The slices look like there are “double exposures” for lack of a better term where surfaces have lost alignment.

Re: Critical bug in Register 360
I thought I was losing my mind. I think I posted somewhere a while back about E57 export being broken.
it looks good in 360 but E57 output is not correctly aligned, just enough to not be obvious of course.
I abandoned E57 for PTX
you can convert ptx to E57 in cloudcompare
Soon enough my new scanners arrive and I can throw these two BLK turds into the sea

Can we confirm that this is just E57 i'm dealling with one person that seems to be having the same issue with PTX as well showing a similar result.
