Using Cyclone 9.1 to Import and Register Laser Scanning Data
Hello Everyone,
I have recently started using Leica Cyclone to process the Laser Scanning data of a bridge collected by one of the Leica Laser Scanner (Not sure what was the scanner version). I am very familiar with using Faro and its products till now and I am not familiar with using Leica and its products (Cyclone).
I have installed a free demo version of Leica Cyclone 9.1 to import the data. My scans are in a .bin format and even though they are very small in size (+282 MB), I cannot open them using CloudCompare.
In the free version (Viewer mode) of Cyclone, I am unable to import data into the created databases. I have created my database in my unshared server as shown in few tutorial videos, but the database does not show any option to import scan data (All videos have the option to Import ScanStation C10 Project). I have attached a picture of my available options.
I am following this video to create my project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ea4w6jLLxM
youtu.be/
What am I doing wrong, or do I need to set some Preferences before using software to import scan data.
I am sure this question is very basic, but as I am not at all familiar with any of the Leica products (I did not collect the data itself), any suggestions will be very helpful.
Thanks and Regards
Vamsi

Are you able to re export the data at all? .bin would indicate some kind of binary format which will cause you problems.
Can you view the file using TEXTPAD to open it and look at its structure (x,y,z,r,g,b etc)

Re: Using Cyclone 9.1 to Import and Register Laser Scanning
Hello Andy,
Thanks for your reply.
I did open the .bin file using a textpad and Matlab. It is not in the format of a ASCII file (x,y,z,r,g,b).
I also tried opening it using CloudCompare but it says the file contains 256 point clouds (Not sure what it means).
So is .bin not a regular Leica Cyclone format?
Coz I followed the same procedure as shown in the video link.

Re: Using Cyclone 9.1 to Import and Register Laser Scanning
Attached pictures show the folders of the data given to me.
I was said that these were taken using Leica Laser Scanner.
So I need advise to import them into Cyclone and then export them so that I can use it in Faro Scene which I am very familiar with.
Is there a way as I the Cyclone software is unable to import my data.

As far as I'm aware you need a licence to import raw leica data into cyclone and create a database. The leica cyclone viewer will only view a compiled database. Once you have the relevant licence you will be able to import the bin files and export out as e57 to process in scene. Contact your local leica rep.

Hello sw_edge,
Thank you for your reply.
Is there a chance for Leica to provide me a trial version of the license. I have licenses of all Faro products but none of Leica's. So was wondering if they can help us in giving a trial version for a week or something.
Thanks

If you have been sent a license by someone then chances are you've either a) not activated successfully in the CLM or b) Cyclone cannot access the CLM license server to find the license.

Re: Using Cyclone 9.1 to Import and Register Laser Scanning
Hello Phil,
The license I have is downloaded from the Leica website directly.
So, after I installed the software it directly converted to viewer mode. As quoted by "sw_edge" I guess the viewer mode function will only allow me to see the created databases and not view the actual data.
Thanks
Vamsi

I think you mean you've downloaded the 'software' as this is free to download anyway. You cant download 'EID licenses' as these must be sent you via a Leica Rep.vkalasap wrote:Hello Phil,

Yes in viewer mode you can only view existing Cyclone databases, you'll need a license for everything else.
