Control Makes World flip

Post by Carbix »

Has anyone had it where when they apply control to the locked point cloud group it flips the whole thing upside down?

The error could be coming from how you have set up the import of your control file.
Double check the order of your X, Y, Z coordinates.
If this isn't correct, your pointcloud will flip.
Another reason is that your control points are almost in a straight line, so the resultant pointcloud could easily "rollover".
Make sure your control has a really good spread in the X-Y Plane. EDIT..if you project is multi story..definitely try to get some survey control on each level. A "Level run" with traditional survey equipment would be advised.
Finally, it could be a simple naming error in your targets, check that the target names are the same as the control file names including upper/lower case !
You seem to have a huge error in your y and z coordinates, so It is probably a control ID (name) error.
A lot of American 3D software is "Y up" where the rest of the world is "Z up".
The image in your post is upside down, I'm thinking Z is your problem.
Regards,
Mike.

REG360 imports control in N,E,El not E,N,El... so could be the issue.

Some total stations / survey softwares export the x and the y in the opposite way round than Cyclone is expecting.
So you'll see a near perfect registration fit between the control and the scans, then zoom out and see a building / boat or whatever you've surveyed upside down, wondering if your're going crazy.

Need to re-import the control file but with the x and y the other way around, and bingo. But at least you know it's going to work when it's re-imported the right way up!

US = YXZ

Everywhere else = XYZ

Sorry if that seems like a generalisation. It may be different on other locations.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.
