Road mapping and more highlights at Intergeo 2008

Post by Oliver Buerkler »

Coventry, UK/7th October 2008 – FARO experienced another highly successful show with Intergeo, the leading trade show for geodesy, geoinformation and land management (Bremen, Germany) from 30th September – 2nd October.

Visitors to the booth were especially interested in the advanced features of the new Photon Laser Scanner like a 200 percent increase in accuracy, a highly improved outdoor range and a 300 percent reduction in noise levels compared to the previous model. The FARO Scene software which offers more than 80 percent faster colour capture speed (3 minutes versus 15 minutes of former solutions) for very high quality and automatic overlays of 40 million colour pixels was another main attraction.

Presentations on the latest scanning technology trends drew crowds to the FARO stand. These included topics like:
  • Software for Road Mapping MMS (Mobile Mapping System):
Laser Scanning enables collecting data in a safe and innovative way, without holding up the traffic flow. The exploitation of this scan data is an excellent answer to the growing demand of geo-referenced 3D data for Geographical Information Systems, needed for today’s road infrastructure management.
  • Software for 3D animation:
The Pointools software allows for animation of 3D images and CAD models.
  • Software for Heritage:
Reconstructor is the software package for processing 3D laser data, 3D models and 2D images, developed by Gexcel and the European Commission Research Centre, JRC.
  • Software for Forestry:
The software company TreeMetrics presents innovative solutions for optimising value recovery in forestry.
  • Software for Process, Power, Piping:
The plant capture solution Reality Linx enables users to access and navigate an immense amount of enterprise asset data, such as for the measurement of three-dimensional structure of plants. The solution is based on INOVx Solutions’ advanced virtualisation technology.
  • Hardware for accurate and quick referencing:
FARO presented new spheres with a 2 fold increase on accuracy. As they can be mounted on tripods, they enable ‘traversing’, a method for using only two spheres in conjunction with the Laser Scanner’s level sensor, thus enabling quick and highly accurate referencing).
