Hi,
I'm new to the forum so sorry if this isn't formatted correctly.
I am currently trying to figure out the best way to scan prints from white digital abs and would appreciate insights from anyone who has found a good process. I currently use the Artec Space Spider to scan and Helling 3D scanning spray. I know the material is too reflective/somewhat translucent to scan well so I am using the spray, but since the spray is white and so is the material, I keep missing pieces or not coating it enough. If I turn the scanner sensitivity very high then it can pick it up better, but still not perfectly and I end up with a lot of noise in my scan. I wish there was a colored scanning prep spray but so far have not found anything of the sorts. Let me know if you have any tips!

Hey there,
No worries about the formatting – we're here to help!
I totally get your struggle with scanning white digital ABS prints. They can be a pain due to their reflectiveness and translucency. Using the Artec Space Spider and Helling 3D scanning spray is a good choice, but I feel your frustration with the white-on-white issue.
Here's a suggestion: try a matte spray or powder to reduce the reflectivity. This could help your scanner capture more details without all that annoying noise. Also, make sure you've got good lighting to minimize those pesky reflections. Experiment with different angles and positions to see what works best.
Even though there might not be a colored scanning prep spray available, you could look into alternative products or techniques to make your white prints less reflective. Keep experimenting, and I'm sure you'll improve your scanning results.
Hope these tips come in handy for you. Feel free to ask if you have more questions or need extra help!
Cheers,
John
