Indoor photogrammetry with 360 camera

Post by Ioannis »

I already use terrestrial laser scanner but would like to create a photogrammetry branch that will do the same work in less time. I was thinking to try the indoor photgrammetry with an NCTECH IStar 360 camera and then insert in pix4d to do the rest. ( If you know of any other camera less than 6000$ suggest it).
What do you think about my thought, anyone have try it?

I've been reading a lot on this topic lately because I also would like to give this a try and see the pro and cons.

What I know so far:
- Its possible with the Istar Fusion and the Matterhorn camera combined with Agisoft
- you will need good light conditions
- depending on how big your project is going to be, calculation the pointcloud might take far longer than registering scan data.
- you will need control points, which means you'll also have to take a total station with you each time.

very hard to do. Probably easier / better results with a matterport scanner.

Gopro camera would work too, better than istar for this particular use case IMO.

There is no way to "speed up" scanning and get the same result. So you'll have to comprise somewhere.

We were also taking a look at experimenting with the Matterport as well solely for walk throughs and ease of 360 image viewing. FYI,there are places that rent the matterport if you want to just check it out. If looking to purchase, it seems there is a $900 (20%) discount that expires the last day of the month.

Hi All,

Here's some information regarding indoor photogrammetry:
https://pix4d.com/indoor-mapping-game-plan/
This includes the sample dataset which you may try with the free Pix4Dmapper Pro trial or discovery version!

Best Regards,
