Interesting,

But I don't know why the insist on sticking with those SICK laser scanners. The data is plain terrible.

Not sure what you'd use it for.

Hovermap is a project that CSIRO have in development based on a light weight variant of our GeoSLAM ZEB-REVO mobile mapping system designed to be mounted on UAV's.

The system does not use Sick scanners the sensors are from Hokuyo.

As the system uses our SLAM mapping algorithm it does not need a high grade IMU or GPS for mobile mapping which significantly reduces the overall weight. This also means that the system can be used to map indoors and underground which opens up many different potential applications.
