What do you mean with the abbreviations hw and sw.

I was told that they scout software on the z&f don't work as fluent as shown in demo movies and brochures.

I've done a test in the field with vz400i and although there were not a lot of scans (10 or so) it was registered on the fly. In their postprocessing software everything van be inspected if necessary. It's a large scanner but also very robust, better than every other instrument.

BTW, z+f does not come with the software you need, it comes with Laser Control Pro, not Pro Plus. If you need to do C to C registration then you need the Pro Plus, another $10000 extra or so.

I`m not sure if you are right,Z+F 5010X and new 5016 both comes with ZF Scout software along with ZF control. With ZF Scout you can register C2C without additional charges.

i agree with bashar. zf laser control scout (in bundle with zf imager 5010x and 5016) can register c2c. i was invited to a 5016 roadshow last month. 5016 and a panasonic rugged notebook to run laser control scout release 9. only 3 scan positions (it was a roadshow, not a real job) but c2c and natural point as a target in an outdoor environment. all was ok for registration. the dimension and weight of the zf 5016 and the possibility not only to register on the fly (riegl do it better) but to check on field the possibility to reduce the number of scan position. this is in my opinion the innovation in the laserscanning process. (hw = hardware, the laser scanner and sw = software for registration, like zf laser control or riegl riscan)

I am not sure how much is Riegl VZ400`s vertical field of view. As far as I remember he older Riegl scanner FOV was about 80 degree.

Guillaume,
I have used many of the scanners and put them through their paces. We use the Leica P40 and the C10. Cyclone has a lot of new features coming shortly. The P40 has some of the best quality I've seen in the data. One thing to remember, is you get what you pay for. Leica maybe on the high side of costs, but here in the USA their service is fabulous. Not sure about your area but I would think the same. Rent one or see if the reps in the area will let you try one out. Compare for yourself.

If you have to buy today and there is no waiting for anything, I'd recommend:

1) Z+F 5016 for large-scale indoor work (100's or 1k's of scans). They have great workflows for managing huge datasets, give you imaging (rgb + thermal if needed) quick scan speeds, bulletproof hardware and great support. These guys are the real deal and have been around for a while.
Definitely ask them for a demonstration. It will be worth your time.

2) Faro 150 for indoors. It isn't as accurate and doesn't have the quality/reliability factor of the Z+F but for short-range indoor work, it is lightweight and fast enough.

3) Leica P16 for more versatile work. Considering that you're doing indoor work, but had some issues with accuracy, you might want to investigate a P20. It is bigger, heavier and not as fast as the others, but it will be reliable indoors and out. The software is expensive, so keep an eye out for that.

On the flipside, if you can wait:

1) Leica BLK360. It is cheap, fast (enough) and easy (in theory). There will be teething issues for the first couple of months, perhaps even year, so expect early adopteritise. But the bang-for-the-buck on this one is top-notch, especially in the long run, as Leica figures out all the issues in the workflow and resolves initial bugs.
