Hi,
Our firm recently got into laser scanning and we are looking for information on how folks manage the absolutely huge files. I had a search on the forum to see what setups people are using but there does not seem to be much information. We have about 9 terabytes of storage on the actual processing PC but between the data, processed files, and the projects in our processing software we keep running out of storage space.
How do folks who work in scanning manage their data? My former company ended up going with a Synology NAS solution after I left since it was a simple setup. We wonder if we should follow the same route.
Thanks so much for your help in advance!

Running projects on local drive and synced to a large HDD in the pc

I copy the same zip to 2 external drives, 1 is in the basement, the other one is kept elsewhere

Size and transfer speed for network were a big issue for us when we started 7 years ago. First years used a monster laptop rental to process and transferred data to external hard-drives year two years after getting Register 360 and new BLK360 We had to get a special subnet within our older building network : a new 1GB Switch and 12- 1GB Nic cards, new CAT6 Cables for different machines to link two Synology NAS: NAS1 -48TB RAID 51 8-6TB drives RAW DATA Archives (10GB is ISCI attached to the License server for use with Jetstream Server -internal along with LGS portable access directory) NAS2- 80TB RAID 10 8-10TB drives Register 360 projects (40TB effective storage)

I'm firmly on Team NAS.
If you haven't found it yet here's a good thread describing the ways a few of us have approached the problem:

Thanks! Not sure how I missed that. Probably didn't use the right words in the Search box.jedfrechette wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 6:43 pm I'm firmly on Team NAS.
