I'm sick of carrying around a heavy duty set of legs for small scanning requirements, especially when the environment isn't exactly 'extreme'.
I've seen some people use light-weight carbon fibre 'photographic style' tripods before with various scanners. Does anyone have any suggestions of some sturdy ones that can comfortably carry the weight of a scanner, but are reasonably light weight and can fold down to fit inside my kit bag?
This is the sort of thing i'm finding, but i'd rather look at something someone else has used, before trusting a scanner to a set of legs i'm not 100% confident in!

Re: Compact Carbon Tripod
I think they're the Gitzo tripods but cost about £1k.
We have these ones - https://www.sccssurvey.co.uk/sccs-carbo ... ripod.html

If you're state side we have a cheaper yet equally sturdy alternative by a company called Benro. http://www.laserscanning-america.com/Ca ... rimble-TX5

Re: Compact Carbon Tripod
we just got one of these, and its a pretty nice piece.
has 3/8" thread, so you would need an adapter or bushing if you need to go up to 5/8.
we just ordered 2 more after we saw how nice it was.

Re: Compact Carbon Tripod
Hi.
Gitzo is in the meantime owned by Manfrotto. They also build very nice tripods at lower prices than Gitzo.
I personally, like their snap locks for the legs better than the Gitzo twist locks.
In case you are willing to go to a less known brand, looking into SIRUI from China might be worthwile.
In the meantime they have gained a good name in the semi-pro photographer community.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler
