Faro Scan of a Jail Medical Holding Cell

Post by john-newbegin »

http://a360.co/1K6QZ0P

I just wanted to test if you guys could see this, my first time sharing on autodesk 360. If not I will take down, can we share video files directly on here or just links to outside sites?

This is a quick 3 scans made into a point cloud in Faro Scene and then the free video utility was used to move around a little in scene, so it has watermarks.

Thanks
John

It loaded up nicely for me - it took me to a page where I could download the file. The A360 drive loaded very slowly despite my fast internet connection, but I suspect that's because I live on the other side of the world from the rest of the internet ... Once it was actually downloading it only took a few seconds.

That's really good quality rendering from the Scene video app - it is much better than I expected. I can see why people are giving up on Pointools and just going with the native Scene app!

This is the quality I'm seeing on my screen after downloading the video to a Mac. I took 2 minutes to download. Nice quality, it reminds to make sure I'm using the latest version of the Faro Video app.

David & Others,

Thanks for the image, I was meaning to put one on there, thats the newest version of 1.1 video app the free one. Yeah I was pretty happy with the quality. The next step is I was just accepted into the sequoia beta program for the new cloud to mesh program by thinkboxsoftware.com. It looks pretty good I just need to learn the settings.

That autodesk share thing is pretty cool, but if I wanted to share directly on this forum do we get space for that or does it need to be a link to external download, I'm kind of new here, but learning a lot so far.

i too can see it no problems. as a fellow Autodesk user i have a 360 drive so it only took a second or 2 to load the page, but i won't download the file as i am on a very slow and expensive mobile data connection. out of interest which scanner did you use to do the scans?

Josh,

We have the faro focus the 130m one not the new long range one. It was 3 scans , I need to start getting above the ceiling for 4 floors above the cells to as build the hvac. I'm dying to scan the outside including roof and fly around in scene and see it from above and further away and zoom in. There is a basketball court enclosure on the roof, and lots of round ductwork and like 5 or 6 big rooftop units.

Do you have anything cool I could see on your 360, I have 25gb on there I'm going to try making a lot more.

that sounds like a good job. about the best job you will ever get with HVAC i bet. i would be interested to see the end result. unfortunately i don't really have anything cool on my 360 drive other than the 3D model of the attached screen shot. i have only really just started playing around with the whole point cloud thing, and unfortunately all the work i do currently is in SolidWorks. i will keep you updated though if i manage to get anything interesting that i can share. ;)

That's pretty cool I haven't tried anything like that. I saw that faro makes scenect and you can use an Xbox Kinect, I was thinking about trying that with some action figures or some of my kids toys, just not sure what I would do with the scans after the fact.

My job is pretty cool it started out as only cad then revit and 3d now mep. I'm trying to talk my boss into scanning his airplane I think that would be a cool project.

that model was done in project momento. you can download the beta version for free at the moment. it is a great program and would be perfect for doing the action figures. you should give it a go. there are some excellent tutorials on youtube.

yeah i have seen some scans of planes and they do look very cool. i scanned a d7 dozer on site here one night but am yet to get around to modelling it. been a little busy.
