3D Laser Scans of the Oregon Caves

Elijah Davidson, a resident of nearby Williams, discovered the (Oregon) cave in 1874. Over the next two decades, private investors failed in efforts to run successful tourist ventures at the publicly owned site. After passage of the Antiquities Act by the United States Congress, President William Howard Taft established Oregon Caves National Monument, to be managed by the United States Forest Service, in 1909. Laser scans were captured and processed by ToPa 3D team players, Eric Stone III and Paul Tice. ToPa 3D now has 3D, measurable precision data of the Oregon Caves system both above and below ground - a 3D digital snapshot of our moment in subterranean history.

What type of scanner did you use for the caves? they look like good scans.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

We used the "old" FARO Photon - you know, the one that weighs 350lbs? (haha) - However, the FARO scanners really produce great imagery. The animation was rendered in MicroStation V8i with the built-in Pointools Vortex engine.

Great looking scans looks like it was quite a bit of them. about how long did this project take you and about how many scans roughly was it?
