Re: Orthophoto of a jail stairwell
Nice work Aaron, and check this out guys.. This worked much better.. I tweaked my ortho photo and put into photoshop so I can make it the size I wanted, to print on letter sized paper 8.5x11.
Aaron, how do I tell if I have samsung SSD, without opening up my case, is there a place in windows that will tell me. Also what is the samsung utility that you were telling me about, does it do things automatically is it an overall performance booster or just settings in Scene or something?
How do you guys post things here that are 1000x1000 pixels and still look good the only way I know how is to take the original and destroy the quality by telling the original size in height or width to be 1000 in photoshop and hten the quality kind of goes to crap?
Also I cant delete my last post, how do I do that was not complete kind of a duplicate of this one, but this one I rambled more..

Right clicking your drive and going to properties -> hardware will show you the manufacturer.
It is likely Samsung. SS magician is a general performance booster.

Thanks Lewis,boxel0 wrote:Wow impressive orthophotos, can i ask how are your clients using these images ?
I am using it for the engineer to discuss to our command staff the problem with the stairwell CFM and an issue with air quality at the bottom of the stairwell, the same unit on the rooftop is the only source of airflow in the stairwell and we have some indoor air quality/humidity issues near the lower floors. Its just to show visually, but I have also been using the pointcloud and making slices and tracing them for ductwork etc that we dont have drawn in CAD yet its a great time saver.
What kind of stuff are you working on?
Aaron,
Thanks for the info it is a samsung I will check out that utility.

Since you are from a public safety setting I'll just let you know about the IAFSM conference this November 14-18. I am not sure if you use your scanner for other purposes like crime scene investigations and such or collisions scenes but have a look on www.iafsm.org to get more details.

Re: Orthophoto of a jail stairwell
Thanks Eugene,
I don't do any crime scene but I work for the Sheriff's office, but specifically in the engineering department, of 2 people, so if the engineer doesn't do the work I do. I have been taking on a huge project of our 5 story building of all the inmate cells, pipe chases, and above the ceiling and behind some walls for as builting the facility. I am taking it one floor at a time and have scanning help but I am processing it all myself and then have to draw in cad or revit, first the ductwork, then plumbing and get architecture as close as I can.
Luckily there is a lot of duplication there are only about 3 or 4 cell door types and layouts so its a lot of copy paste..
We have a crime lab and they went to training with me but they have never showed much interest in using the technology yet, probably too busy with other tasks.
I was hoping they would pick up on it and I am way more experienced with the scanner and scene, than they are from the one week training class from faro, I was hoping to be able to branch out and scan more interesting things than just jail cells, and pipe chases.

Re: Orthophoto of a jail stairwell
Hi John,
I am rather surprised the lab people can't see the potential there, but I guess it's all relative to what's on your plate.
If you get a chance, give it another shot and maybe show them some of what others are doing on this forum...might make them a bit more interested.
Cheers,
Eugene

Aaron, thanks for the tip re Samsung Magician. My laptop has a Samsung 950 Pro so I'm keen to see if Magacian can "tweak" it a bit more.

You're unlikely to see a significant performance boost from PCIE 4.0 devices in PCIE 3.0 laptops, if that is what you have.
