Z+F Registration in SCENE or CYCLONE?
Renting a Z+F scanner (explosive environments) and will be registering data in either Cyclone or SCENE.
Anyone have experience registering Z+F scans in either Cyclone or SCENE? I know that I can do it in Cyclone but it will be time consuming to visually locate all scanned targets (spheres, maybe some checkerboards) and region grow spheres. I am used to the automation in SCENE and the auto-find targets.
SUMMARY: Looking for the best way to register Z+F data with my current software. Deliverable to be RECAP files.

Hello Dan,
I have done that in cyclone, you can directly import your .zfc files or .zfprg into Cyclone quite easily , while you import the points you will see an option to retrieve the targets automatically. you can get roughly %50 of your targets.
Since I barely use targets ,even for big jobs and mostly rely on point to point registration ,I recommend use combination of targets and point to point for your registrations.
Please let me know if I can help you furthermore.

Hi
cyclone only will find B&W targets automatically and not even all.
It takes only a couple of minutes per station to find all targets spheres and B&W. I don't use region grow for spheres as I get better results in doing best fist spheres with set diameter using only points on the sphere.
Another good thing in cyclone is that you can right the registration parameters for each scan station back to the Z&F files which when goes strait into ReCap including colour.
For a small job I would use cyclone as the time for manual finding targets doesn't at up to much time.

Re: Z+F Registration in SCENE or CYCLONE?
I would use Cyclone. I've worked on projects as large as 5500 scans using Scene and hundreds of projects using Cyclone and would recommend Cyclone by a long shot. I just finished a 1500+ scan project and did all cloud to cloud, visual registration with Cyclone and it went seamlessly and checked in great to survey control. And I also just finished a simple 250 setup project with Scene and had trouble getting a perfect alignment. I ended up sending it to Cyclone to get the results I wanted.

1500 scans cloud-to-cloud? Wow, nice job. I'm on Cyclone 7.2 so I do not have visual available.
I can have access to version 9 though and do visual cloud to cloud. How long did it take you to register the 1500 scan set?

I use the simple point to point clicking in cyclone, and I think it goes just as fast if not faster for me. So you should be ok with-out visual registration.berdindc wrote:1500 scans cloud-to-cloud? Wow, nice job. I'm on Cyclone 7.2 so I do not have visual available.

When doing c2c you need to properly clean each scan (bad returns through glass, returns too far away, etc...), so that impacts the time it takes. Normally I can do between 20-40 an hour into a registration.

Thanks Thad. Will see how it goes. More challenging part will be moving this behemoth around. It the the 5006EX and weighs all of 70 pounds. Heaviest scanner I've come across.
Lots of stairs too....
