About Faro Scene grid options

Post by Liky12 »

I couldn't find info about several small things one of which I did and couldn't understand how to revert in my project.
Image

1 First I picked Attach to Scan Point option and my intention was to move the grid to that point, but in addition to moving my grid also rotated and I don't know how to straighten it back. In the photo the camera is on Top view with ortho mode.
2 What is the meaning of Normal in the Transformation menu?
3 Grid rotation is set to 0 yet the grid is still rotated, did it took the rotation of the scan from which I picked a point?

HI,

1. You probably misclicked and hit "Attach with One Click". I tested with "Attach with Scan Point" and could not manage to rotate the grid.
To straighten it back you need to set the normal to "0 0 1" and the rotation to "0".
Your scan was probably rotated before you messed with the grid.

2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(geometry)

3 That is because of the Normal. Set it to "0 0 1"

btw, why do you even need the grid? I never used it :D

Kind regards
Raimund

Thank you for the link, it's possible that I miskicked, I tried changing the normal as you said but didn't help. I use the grid in order to straighten my scan. My company is in the marine industry and the clouds are from ships. The best way we have found to straighten the vessels is manually with the grid looking at multiple pipes and wall inside the ship and then I also use clipping box to straighten it in the Y & X directions.

Now I get it. There is a rotation on project workspace level. That's why the grid is also rotated.

And there is plenty of room for improvement on aligning the project : )
One easy way to straighten the scan is to mark a plane and then using the "Alignement" tool in the context menu. (Be careful, it will fuck with the project workspace transformation)
I also love Yan Koch's "Extended Toolbox" to place and rotate my scans: https://en.taglabs-solutions.com/plugins
I hope that helps : )

Kind regards
Raimund
