Faro Focus Swift

Post by sheartab »

Is this a beta version of what is to come? Or perhaps a new take on DIY, allowing users to build their own? I love the idea, but pulling out my golf cart and strapping on a ScanPlan to scan a high profile project is a bit out of the question. Plus difficult to navigate around a congested space.

Yes, this is a product preview of what is to come. Basically Focus S users, with the help of ScanPlan, will have an option to convert their static scanner to an indoor mobile mapping unit. Nice way to extend the usefulness of your investment.

How else is it unique? The setup will allow you to perform constant mobile mapping or switch to static scan mode. This means you can either capture a space quickly at a bit lower accuracy on the go...or do a static scan project but skip all of those annoying doorway/connection scans simply by switching to mobile mode as you move from one spot to another. Oh yeah, scan registration should be automatic too!

Regarding the cart, Yes I do believe this will have DIY flexibility in case users dont like the standard cart. The one shown in the image is capable of going through standard doorways without issue. More details to come soon and I am sure we will be looking for testers

Interesting to see the evolution. When you say "mobile" I assume that is a helical mobile scan, or is it a moving spherical scan? Forgive me for prying, I couldn't resist.

Glad to see Oliver enjoying the new creation :D

No please pry away! Here is an interesting page that may provide info as we learn more https://highspeed-laserscanning.faro-europe.com/. You can flag yourselves to receive updates as more information is revealed. I will wait for the man himself to add some details to your questions though.

And yes, you know Oliver is a jolly German when he gets to play with new toys.

Great to hear the excitement. Well, i would say now is a good time to start nudging your local Sales Engineer. They will probably be the first to get a kit for testing. If you dont know this person then try your Account Manager. Make sure they introduce you to your SE. These are the field nerds you want to hang out with anyway ;)

It is in fact a moving spherical scan. Both pan axis and mirror are constantly spinning while you move along. You are able to switch from mobile mapping to stationary and back any time to get the best of both worlds: speed and accuracy.

Will this work with the older X130 or S120 as well? Or just with the new S series scanners?

Any clues as to the workflow with the software? Will this utilize SCENE or some alternative?
