Exporting from SCENE to ReCap

Post by EricPullins »

Hi Everyone,

I am running into a couple problems when I go to export my scans into a file format that Autodesk ReCap can read. When I open the file in ReCap, a lot of really important scans couldn't be loaded and then I go to look at the point cloud and it loses all the registration information I had attached to the project.

I was told by the folks at FARO to go Export>Export Project then I picked the file type I wanted and let it run overnight. I did this and it gave me the results above. Do any of you have any suggestions for this?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I thought you can import the lsproj file from Scene directly into ReCap? (I know that it is possible to import the fls files).
Perhaps you need to update your Faro SDK to do so, it should be sufficient to install:
https://knowledge.faro.com/Software/FAR ... _for_SCENE

If this is not possible:
You can try to use E57 as an exchange format, so export E57 out of Scene and Import the E57 file into ReCap. The panorama views should be visible.

Hi

We always use the E57 route.

You can control the amount of data you exportfrom scene by using the rows and columns options.

Also export them as individual scans to view individually with panorama views.

Once E57 's have been exported drag into a new project in recap, skip registration when indexing and all should be good

E57 is the way forward.

Just have to index in Recap when creating a new project.

Been using this way for long time without any issues

What is wrong with the .rcp option from Scene?

You can go that way too. I find with the E57 It’s just one file and not individual scans is better for my workflow.

I use SCENE software for alignment only. once scan is aligned and on coordinate (if applicable), I then Export out of SCENE ordered FLS files. import in to ReCap the FLS files you want for your point cloud. Index them only. you can take a huge point cloud and make smaller ReCap files for your work.

I use SCENE to process, register and align the scans - after that, I use Clipping Box for the part I need, and export the "Active clipping box" to .e57 which I import to ReCap to finetune and make it Autocad compatible.

I have tried to export a .rcp directly from SCENE but it has always failed.

My clients want the individual scan stations in Revit so after i regester and trim in SCENE I export the ordered fls files and drop them in Recap and go to bed. The next moening i save the Recap job and copy it to a external HD or thumbdrive and I'm done. Works every time.
