Hi,
Whenever scene crashes it generally creates a autosave file but if the point cloud has not been created before that then there is no data at all. Like I can see the scan file names in the structure but there is no data in it. Even in the 3D view I can see the scanner position as well. If I re-import the same scans then I get an error message "scan name with the same name already exists". Has anyone experienced this issue before ? It would be really helpful to know the fix. Thank you.
Best,
Nikit Shetti

Re: Scene Autosave
This is a last resort fix
Look in your revisions folders
Find the last latest revision with actual files in the scans folder
You may have to go back multiple revisions to find all the scans
Copy those scans into the scans folder under the revision you are trying to recover
You are just trying to find the version of each scan file you touched last and copy it into the latest revision’s scan folder
You lose whatever changes you made in the last revision but it has worked for me recovering a project that I tried to save to a full disk
Good luck

Re: Scene Autosave
You can also try to go in the Process tab and re-process the project. Sometimes, this issue happens from the Scan Point Clouds becoming corrupt if SCENE is force-closed during a save.

Re: Scene Autosave
Try right clicking on the missing cluster, or the individual missing scans, in the structure window, select 'Load All Scans' or 'Loaded' which should reload the original scan data and then re-run the cloud creation procedure. A good practice is to regularly save your project after every operation (loading scans, creating point clouds, etc.) and then disregard the autosaves. Using saves created halfway through a corrupt procedure increases the likelihood of actually corrupting your data and if you save after each operation you shouldn't ever lose much time in re-running the last process. Saving your projects in Scene also clears cached temp data from any unsaved operations, freeing up memory and often improving processing performance.

"Saving After Major Tasks
Information related to certain major tasks is held in the system memory until the project is saved.
Saving after the following tasks will help keep memory free for system use:
Create/Delete Scan Point Clouds
Unsaved modifications to multiple scans (i.e. cropping, filtering, or applying color)
Updating target-less registration
Certain tasks do not require more frequent saves such as:
Creating objects manually (i.e. checkerboards, spheres, planes, points, or viewpoints)
Updating target-based registration"

Re: Scene Autosave
Seriously.... who puts a "Delete points inside" button directly below the "Delete points outside" button and doesn't have at least one undo available?
At least put a little dummy button between! My old jittery hands keep deleting the wrong points and I have to re-clean the scan!
Alas...
On a related note: What can one retrieve from the Autosave and how does one do it? This thread doesn't quite explain that to me.
Thanks all!
