Big Job
Hi fellow Scan professionals, My name is Marty and I am new to the scanning field, my company has recently purchased a Trimble TX8 and tasked me with learning how to use it and process the data. I have scanned a 1 plus mile of elevated bridge in the downtown Houston area, I did all my scans on level 3 so I have very large files, I have been able to register all scans and break into two separate jobs, I would like to merge the two together but not sure that is possible with the size of the project, would I have to sample the data down considerably before I try this? any and all feedback appreciated.

Hi CountryBoy.
And welcome to the community.
Merging jobs together should be an easy task... which software are you using?

Re: Big Job
I am using realworks with the latest update, and have merged two files in each half of the job but was not sure I could merge both halves together since they were so large without sampling them down considerably.

Re: Big Job
Hi Marty
Merging the files shouldn't be a problem for Realworks, I'd guess that the spec and capability of your PC and data storage is much more likely to constrain the size of your 'final' project.
If the amount of data is a problem, I'd try cleaning extraneous 'noise' and coincident (duplicate) points out of the scans and then sampling to a spatial interval that still gives you the information you need, before merging the 'clean' scans in a single project.
If the files are still 'too' big you might have to settle for splitting the job into two (or more) projects - how and whether you can do that is also influenced by what your final deliverables are going to be.
