I need to scanner a freezer warehouse. I tried running a different brand scanner and was having issues with heavy distortion and fog inside the scanner that would freeze. There is almost no wind inside the warehouse and there is a 40F refrigerated and a 70F area to take breaks if needed. Does anyone have experience running an RTC360 in lower temp? I have 2 pairs of batteries for it.
TIA

Re: RTC360 at -5F (-20C)
Funny you mention this. I had a similar situation last year when I had to survey some of our product when it was -35C. I only had our Faro S70 and managed to wrap it in bubble wrap to insulate it. Seemed to do the trick!

The RTC360 scanned all day at minus 20 degrees without any problems, and even the batteries lasted almost the same time as under normal conditions.

Re: RTC360 at -5 to -20C
Faro scanners have such a bad design for cold...
I had a project where they wanted me to scan in very cold (-30C) to see how big movements in the structure was compared to the hottest day in the summer. Issue was not cold, scan worked for 40 stations with no issues. I used this expensive lunch box that managed to keep the scanner above 10C internal temp threw out the 3hours I was there and the key is to turn off the fans in temperature settings. Issue is the design of the lens, it has the condensation happen in the middle;
I tough having silica bags in the box would work but found out those have a shelf life. In order to scan I put my fingers on the windows to warm it up, then did a 1/4 2X scan with the premium (1min20s) and it managed to go threw, but that still wasn't great and results were all over the place and had to delete a bunch of scans.
Why does condensation need to happen in the middle where the lazer goes threw, why is it not on the sides like a normal window would?

RTC360 handles really cold conditions quite nicely. Just make sure the batteries (and spares) are stored in warm conditions, the unit will misbehave is the cells are too cold. I like to keep spares in my inner jacket pockets.
It may not help, but I also tape up air vents and gaps on the scanner.
