finally how many times did we ask for somethings like that.

as seen in the picture is it only just a simple usb c dongle with ethernet? or do we need to buy some special equipment?

"Thunderbolt 3
Perhaps the most useful protocol USB-C supports is Thunderbolt 3. This adds major new features, such as 40Gbps bandwidth, reduced power consumption, and the ability to move as much as 100 watts of power. A USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3 means a single cable is all you need to power and transfer a large amount of information (up to and including two 60Hz 4K displays) to and from even a complex device like a computer, something many laptop manufacturers have been quick to take advantage of. The top-of-the-line version of Apple's 2016 MacBook Pro boasts four of these connectors, which is as many as we've seen to date, and gives you more expandability potential than you ever had with earlier versions of USB."

It looks like it took someone at LGS 3.5 years to figure it out. I guess I will have to check this out tomorrow at the office and see if it works.

Have in mind that you need active CCP contract for BLK and the best one CCP for Cyclone as you need the latest version!
The say ''thank you Leica'' for something that must exists from the first time!

CCP for blk? why would we need that the firmware are available free to download i suppose... For the cyclone yes if they changed something in the meantime, i'll look it up in release notes is there any changes in the *.blk files... But in the 2020 reg360 release could be used with 2.0.0 data manager files.

PS: it is not up the latest firmware is 2.0.0 at least not on the myworld nor the blk firmware update page...https://shop.leica-geosystems.com/blk360-firmware

Maybe they late a little bit, just wanted us to have a little fun :D

I hope this does not require any expensive special hardware just a simple type c to ethernet dongle... But that wouldn't be a leica solution...

I really want to understand one simple thing: why ethernet and not native USB data transfer?

i can understand that part because the whole datamanager is network based. And with usb only you can damage the blk with a wrong machine or wrong cable instead the network is data only unless you plug in a poe cable but that can only damage the dongle. i like the solution if this is only a simple usb dongle.

Here is the support response
"
1.3 Requirements for direct LAN communication
All BLK360 sensor with a serial number of 3507273 or higher do support the LAN cable feature.
All BLK360 devices supporting the LAN communication, will be delivered without the USB-C plug cover.
Older devices with a serial number lower than 3507273 do not support that feature and could get
seriously damaged if used anyway in this setup. The repair of these damages are not covered by
warranty. The BLK360 USB-C plug cover must only be removed by Leica service.

1.4 LAN upgrade kit for Leica BLK360
Leica BLK360 devices with a serial number lower than 3507273 can be upgraded to support the LAN
feature. Service news will be available with details on the upgrade process."

LGS SHOULD UPGRADE ALL THE BLK360s, SINCE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN.
