Just got a quote from my insurance guy at ~1800 per year to insure my BLK. Surprised it was that high - but maybe that is typical?

You want to get an Inland Marine Policy (at least in the US). For some reason those types of policies cover gear for a lot cheaper than other policies. I got mine through Brown & Brown (they have offices in multiple states) and the underwriter was Ohio Securities. I covered $100,000 worth of scanning equipment, computers, tools etc for under $700. It is for replacement cost. Not depreciated. $1000 deductible.

That's pretty steep. I pay 1500€ a year for insuring an instrument that is 6x the value when buying it new.
