Is there a software where I can merge photos into a pointcloud?

Post by miguel.antunes »

Hello everyone,

I want to give more real colour (photos) to my pointclouds without being the pointcloud photos, dose anyone know a software or a video on how to do it?

Thanks, Miguel Antunes

You can use Reality Capture to do that. The process is a bit complicated. You have to import laser scan point cloud either in PTX or E57 format then add the camera images and align both. You may need to add control points manually. When PC and images are aligned you need to generate 3D model/texture and export the 3D model as point cloud again.
Good luck cause you may need it.

Luposcan can do this. Colorize laser scans with panoramic pictures.

Context Capture and Pix4d work well too.

I wouldn’t consider Reality Capture the Solutions. That’s like using an excavator to hold your beer... and guess what it’s costs the same. Lol.

Can this be done with Cloud Compare?

I think you're right,
Don't know!

Really hard to "beautify" a pointcloud with external images
