cleaning of lens/mirror on P40

Post by npara » Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:07 pm

Hi,

My scanner is just old enough now that I need to clean the lens. The user guide is not clear enough for me to proceed. I have the cloth that came with the scanner, I also have 99% isopropyl alcohol. I'm just not sure on the procedure.

There is a clear lens on one side and a dichromatic looking 'mirror' on the other. Both are dirty with little visible specs. Can I clean both sides with the cloth and alcohol?

Thanks,

Blow off as much of the surface dust as you can. use the cloth and the liquid. start with a fairly wet cloth and just whipe the lens in one direction not using the same part of the cloth each time, fold or move it. once the worsed is off use the cloth with very little liquid trying to cover the whole glass in a film so that it drys very evenly. once you can't see any dirt at all use a very very dry cloth just to whipe over the whole area. the laser side of the mirror is much more delicate than the camera side.

Ok, thanks for the info! I copied the below text from the blk field manual - wondering if this product or another is suitable? I'd like to have something in my field kit and these prepackaged wipes would come in handy.

https://www.amazon.ca/Green-Clean-Lens- ... way&sr=8-1

"Clean the glass pane regularly with the recommended cleaning tissue:• Switch off instrument and remove the battery.• Washing hands is necessary in order to avoid grease on the cleaning tissue.• Better, use gloves to avoid finger oil on the glass.• Then use the wet lens cleaning tissue (Green Clean LC-7010) until there is onlya thin film of detergent visible.• After that use the dry lens cleaning tissue (Green Clean LC-7010) to remove anyremaining detergent.• If any smears from cleaning are visible against back light, repeat the procedure.• Do not use air from the pneumatic power system as this is always slightly oily"
