RTC360 - who has one? What’s the status?

Post by dgerard@sdmm.ca » Thu Aug 30, 2018 2:13 am

Fellow Scanners! The promise of this new machine is great, but quite frankly, after the BLK disaster it leaves me wondering if it’s just more broken promises.

Been a loyal Leica only customer for 25 years (and I still am), and we bought the BLK on spec. I will admit that today, as the BLK runs now, I am happy with, but it only runs today the way I expected it to run when I purchased it.

Not only was it delivered 6 months late, but we suffered for another 6 months with troubleshooting and defective components. Clearly, I am still affected by this as I am severely pessimistic of the new offering.

My local rep is a great guy and I have good reason to trust him, but sometimes the sales personnel do not have a good understanding of daily operations (why would they?). I did a demo, worked fairly well, there were some glitches, but most likely human error.

If there are any P-Series users that’s have purchased the RTC, I would love to hear from you. I see lots of marketing but no users posting. Wondering if anyone has one yet....

Regards,
D

This is a very thoughtful and reasonable post. I look forward to monitoring the responses. I, too, have wondered the same thing. I'm a Faro guy through and though, but keenly interested in use-case reflections on the RTC.
Any observations after testing the "double-scan" feature? I love that concept :)

Having been in the laser scanning industry for 20 years. And having seen and used almost all of the scanners that have been around in that time. I can honestly say that the RTC360 is the best one I have seen so far. Steve Ramsey has been in the industry a little longer than me. I can happily vouch for his knowledge of what we do with scanners "daily operations".

In my personal opinion the BLK is !%^& - that is just my own opinion.

Do yourself a favour and trade your BLK for an RTC :)

Matt,

We have demos on the P50 and RTC360 on Sept. 11
We’ve proposed setup three scenarios to test the touted advantages of each.

P50 - top of our 5 story football field size building to perform a perimeter scan of the PSHQ property in Gaithersburg MD with targets on the roof. Two setups on roof, one setup on ground using targets

RTC360- a very non descriptive topo scan on a flat parking lot with an adjoining SWM pond to test its ability to position itself in difficult scenarios.
A similar set up at the office taking 2-3 scans in the lobby and then going completely behind the building and taking two more scans not linked overlapped with the first ones.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after the demos.
