BLK360 targets
Which are the best targets ( and dimensions) to use with BLK360, spheres or chessboards?
Thanks!
Luis
Thanks!

Re: BLK360 targets
I've tried 6" spheres and checkerboard B&W printed letter sized. I'm using Register 360. I've had much better luck with the checkerboard targets. That might be because R360 acquires them automatically.

Re: BLK360 targets
I used 20 cm diameter "handmade" balls with Blk360 and Recap.
I used them in outdoor environments where it was impossible to have adequate surfaces for the c2c.
I did a job with 15 scans arranged in a ring around the building.
I used 7 spheres ..two forward (at the height of the next scan), two at the height of the current scan and two were at the height of the previous scan (moving those backwards forward as we went).
The seventh sphere was fixed at the start so from the last scan (15) I hit the same sphere already scanned from the first one.
Distance between the gaps about 18-25 meters.
RMSi, in Recap, of a few mm (max 8 mm).
However, on topographic control points (traced B / W tracing 30 x 30 cm detected with GPS) global sms (always in Recap) of 30 mm.
The balls were "handmade": plastic balls bought on the Internet for Christmas decorations, colored in white. (cost: 10 euros each).
For the limited range of the BLK .. .I do not recommend the use of targets (spheres) which are recommended in all external works with few clean and close surfaces ...

Re: BLK360 targets
I use 6 inch spheres. They do take more work to ID the target but are more accurate for my purposes.

Re: BLK360 targets
Talked to Matt Mizell @ Leica HDS support and he confirmed that for the BLK360 laser frequency GREY & White checkerboard targets are better for auto-acquisition- which actually happens in the software I believe not the scanner itself (it doesn't have the ability to "lock" on a target like ATR in a robotic. The software RECAP Pro and Reg360/Cyclone is programmed to recognize the pattern of said targets and extract" or set a point at the center of the sphere or at the intersection of the Light/Dark pattern.ScottErnst wrote: ↑Sun Jul 22, 2018 8:39 pm I've tried 6" spheres and checkerboard B&W printed letter sized. If you notice with the BLK360, many times (Especially if you are a little too far to the targets-more than 30 feet) you will lose scan dots in the BLACK area which on the P-series scanners usually show up at just a different intensity which is how the program extracts it.
We're trying larger GREY & White targets in a few days

I, of course, prefer spheres -

Re: BLK360 targets
Thank you all for your opinions/experiences!
Still a little confused with which would be the best option...
Gsisman, can you share the "results" of the larger targets?
Regards,
Luis
