Mask point behind another point

Post by ZenithSAS »

Hello everyone.

It's been a long time since I'm looking for a software that has a display function to hide the points that are behind other points, and that can also export ortho images in very high resolution (like Cyclone can do for example).

I often generate ortho pictures, and I spend a lot of time manually cleaning my cutplanes to get something clean !! especially when a building is not perpendiculary ...

Does anyone know of software that has such a powerful display algorithm ? For exemple, a display function that can analyse cloud surfaces and maybe mesh them quickly (in a virtual way) to create a mask for the points that are behind, or something like that ?

hi Philip,
have you ever used PointCAB?
you can adjust the range of a view (a raster image from point cloud) to view only the facade, for example.

ciao

If you are using SCENE make a clipping box in line with the surface you are extracting the ortho image from and move the back, front and sides of the CB to only show the points you want in the ortho image.

Hi !

I thank you all for your answer but I know I can make a cutting area of what I want.
What I'm searching for is a software witch have a display mode that can do it automatically.
This could for exemple hide the rear points of a statue, because it is very very complicate to clean and impossible to do with a cutting area.
I know low resolution pictures generaly only show points that are in first plan because of the pixel size, but I only work with very high resolution pictures, on witch we see all the points
I work with point cloud since 15 years and I know a lot of software, but I don't know if thit kind of powerful display mode has ever been developed on a software.
So I ask in case...... It would be just fantastic !

Ps. Excuse for my english

If you create a closed surfaces project point cloud in scene it will do exactly what you are asking for as surfaces will not break up no matter how high the display resolution is.

I do this with scene

Making closed surfaces takes forever and gives dubious results for all but the smallest selections. I love Scene but this is a shortcoming I'm sad to say.

Create two clipping boxes, with faces just a few millimeters apart at the inflection point, i.e. Where front turns into back for whatever you are orthophotoing

Hide the back then use the front box to make your photo. You can get really creative with multiple box placement to get results that are pretty cool.
