Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?
Hi. I have an E57 file that has 18 scans in it. I would like to use the images that are in the file for texturing. But I get an error in 3dreshaper when I try to load the file, and when I tried to export the images from scene I got the pointcloud in the images. What I want is to just have the images exported, or maybe seperate the file into 18 E57 files, so that maybe 3dreshaper can load them.
What I would like ideally, is to have the scanner positions made into spherical cameras in a 3d package, so I can use camera mapping for texturing. But that seems hard to do. Only way I know is to use Mari, and I have never used that program.

From scene you can force to export to separate E57 files. It might be enough..

by the way.. are you sure you have the images in the E57? Is importing the FLS files an option?

Re: Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?
I got the file as a Recap project, so I only have the images in Recap, and in exported E57 files. If there is a way to extract them in Recap, that would be neat.
I will try to delete all but one position in Recap, and see if that works.
I think that if I export the scan position as a dxf point, then I should be able to do it in 3ds max. Just apply the material with spherical mapping, and snapping the pivot of the gizmo to that point. Anyone tried that?

Hi,
Any chance you can send the e57 file to our support team so that our dev team can have a look?
This is typical workflow for 3dreshaper...
Thx

'Complete' E57 export in ReCap Pro should contain the spherical images, or at least sufficient data to recreate them. I have no idea what E57 variants are supported by Reshaper, however.ziltoid wrote:Hi. I have an E57 file that has 18 scans in it. I would like to use the images that are in the file for texturing. The E57 files from Recap has the images, but the files don't work in 3dreshaper.
I sent a link to the file to support as suggested, hope they can figure it out.

Hi Gudmund,
I had a look at the E57 file you shared.
As far as I can tell, it contains the point clouds but no image...
You say it does contain the images, how did you check?

Re: Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?
Thank's for looking into it.
I can only see the images in Recap, but I took the E57 file into Scene and split it up, and when I import just a few of the 18 scans into Recap, I still see the images. So the images are there, I just can get them anywhere else.
Edit: I can see the images in Scene and LupoScan as well, but when I export them I get the points overlayed. So if I figured out how to avoid that, I would be able to get them exported .

Re: Easiest way to get images out of an E57 file?
Hi,
I am trying to achieve exactly the same as you. I have an e57 exported with only images from Cyclone. And It has data but 3DRehsaper does not open the file. When I export both cloud and images, then I can see the point cloud with the colour applied. But I just want to have the images.
Cheers,
Almudena
