Reality Capture Standards and Procedures

Post by bwh1000 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:00 am

I have a client that is looking for a template or a starting point to develop their own set of Reality Capture Standards and Procedures to provide to potential service providers. Is there anything that anyone knows of that they can point me to? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Bruce,

Have you looked at the OpenLSEF ? They're looking to develop standards in this area and for my own part, I'm hoping to get involved and contribute to developing a reasonably robust specification. I've worked in this area in the past, helping develop a local government spec here. The obvious areas that need to be addressed are content, accuracy and QA. My approach is to start with requirements, identify workflows that can deliver those requirements, and develop QA procedures that can independently and completely demonstrate that the requirements have been met. All this needs to be done in a way that is cost acceptable to the client. The most challenging part here is QA and my preferred approach for a robust solution is to check accuracy and content using an independent 3rd party and independent method of measurement (feet on the ground). Producing quality work costs more because of this, so you either need to trim your requirements or acceptance criteria to meet budget.

Shane

Thanks again for those references, those are some great resources for outdoor projects. This particular client is looking to develop standard for inside and directly around buildings. Mainly office type buildings but there are many types of buildings that they own.

anyone else have any ideas or samples?

Hey Bruce,

Check out the (brief) Client Guide to Terrestrial Laser Scanning here: https://www.tsa-uk.org.uk/downloads/

and
from 2013, but still relevant: http://bim-level2.org/globalassets/pdfs ... apture.pdf

which may be of some help.

As Mr. Reed mentioned, this is why www.usibd.org was created. Even if you are not a member, using their LOA standards for helping build a statement of work to clients can be pretty useful.
