I don't think this is a good idea. Sure, it's always good to have more members, but you can't force people to write. They won't share information by making them register. You will probably get more of these dummy accounts, which somebody opens without entering any information.

I think you should keep the barriers as low as possible. If you only make it readable to members, how will other people know, if there is useful information for them in this forum? I probably wouldn't register if I didn't know what I will find there. Ok, people who want to only share news, fine,...they would probably sign up, but if you are looking for a specific information/help with a problem you usually google for it and see if somebody had experienced something similar. If you get help, you keep the forum in mind and maybe the next time you have a problem you sign up and ask the question.

I also just vistited this forum for a couple of weeks until I thought, yes, this is something I might be able to help them with. But first, I read the forum for a while to see if its usefull to stay tuned and check everyday for something new. It is not the only forum and if you want people to stay tuned to it, keep the barriers low.

Hi Phil,

That can be a good idea.
you can create a new area only for guests and clients and they can write any questions, the only problem I can find with this...is, if this section start to receive spam...but you can try.

By my opinion, the best way to get your goal is to publish pertinent answers to the questions post.
The quality of a forum is the first ingredient of the attraction and popularity.

It's a bit too Leica for my liking. ;)
+1 ;)
Very often, when there is only one "point of view", is less interesting to large community. But, it is to the none Leica user to move and to be present to show that there is not an only solution to do 3D laser scanning.
The experience of each other is what is giving stronger also this forum.

People coming from all around the world, working on different applications, with differents solutions unify to exchange about their "fascination" to the 3D laser scanning should not be closed and restrictive.

Have to vote no on restrictions. To me, nothing is more annoying to seach for information on the internet, find a link to it, and then be forced to register for it.

I think the people who feel comfortable with it and want to contribute, do.

I would also add that one of the first things I do when introducing a new client to laser scanning on thier first job is point them at this forum.

There are benefits to having a robust list of registered users, however giving them extras, like newsletters, compiled information, online chats, things like that, will make registering a more attractive option.

I voted YES, but ony if restrictions will not prevent guests to access posts. Some informations could be hidden like: attachments, links, users infos, signatures. Search option also should be unavailable to guests.
This forum is now biggest surce of noncommercial ground laserscanning information on internet. There are dozens of links on different sites/forums that refer to this forum that somehow make it more popular.
Like masimo said - we don't need "0 post members", so let's appeal for those who actually have something to contribute by making our forum better.

Let's remember these are only very minor restrictions as we still need guests to browse the forum for useful information.

I agree the more contributing members we have the better.
