INTERGEO 2019 STUTTGART

Post by dhirota »

It is 2019, so I figured that I needed to check on learning experiences for the new year. Going anywhere is a 5,000 mile round trip at a minimum from HNL. I am saving some money by cancelling my first 2019 trip to CES2019 in LAS.

As usual, decided to track the UAL round trip to Germany and InterGeo 2019 early to see what the special flights in any would cost. Last year they started out about $3,500 economy round trip like this year, but could get closer to $2,000.

Anyone planning to attend?

Probably some from my company will attend, but I don't know yet if I will be among them.
Do you go there as visitors, or is someone going as an exhibitor?

InterGeo is a big event and I've heard people speak of it as a must in this field, but I recently discovered the event GeoBusinessShow and it maybe even seems more interesting. Opinions on that?

Edit: There is a separate topic for Geo Business, but there isn't actual conversation yet, so hopefully this is a good place to ask. :D

Geobusiness is more a possibility than Intergeo this year. It depends on the workload when these conferences are being held.

It just depends on the reason for attending any of these exhibitions; what vendors will be there; who are attending and who will you meet.

Will the 200 exhibitors at GEO Business in May, 2019 be the ones that you want to meet and will they show you new technology that you will use versus the 700 exhibitors at InterGeo 2019 in September, 2019.

Are the 2,000 visitors at GEO Business part of your friend circle that you need to meet and others there will help you with your client group, or the 20,000 that will attend InterGeo 2019 with more of an international reach.

I will probably attend 3 technology exhibitions/conferences in 2019 versus 11 in 2016, 7 in 2017 and 5 in 2018. I will be focused more on what other niche markets are looking at in the next 3 to 5 years and less on what people in this LSF Forum might be interested in tracking.

A good example of this was the IAAPA SINGAPORE 2017 EXPO that I attended and reported on in June, 2017. There have been 1109 visits to that LSF thread. I do not know how many of the 15,000 LSF members know or care what the IAAPA stands for. A friend on mine will be working on 25 of the approximately 100 world class entertainment centers that were reported in planning during that EXPO in Asia. We are in the planning stages of one entertainment center.

I attended Intergeo this year firstly to meet the companies who i have bought stuff from. I like to see people IRL rather than only have contact with them through phone or other communications. It was nice to meet some other users of the gear who i know from this and other forums.
My interest was mainly all to do with scanning, classic surveying stuff is nice to see but not necessary as i tend to move more to the scanning side and have all the necessary gear (robotic, rtk, digital level, laser levels,...) to my disposal and they still do a great job. So most of the stands were not visited by me. I also found to be a lot of B2B suppliers of surveying gear to be present who will do business between each other.

As i am a one man shop i always have to schedule and reschedule. I was planning on going 2 days but a rescheduale of a measurement by the court made me to change yet again to one day only.

Geobusiness was 2 years ago the event where i wanted to go to talk with the companies as i wanted to invest in a new scanner. My Riegl purchase was a result from this visit (as the demos at my shop).

As a registered surveyor we in Belgium have to maintain our license by gathering 20 study-points throughout the year. Most of use do this by going to different conferences but it's always the same companies who have a little stand there and never (almost never) a foreign one (Pointcab was an exception this year).

What i miss at all these conferences is representation of computer hardware companies (workstations, storage, long time storage,...). This is something what i am looking for desperately but never find.

Do you get a lot of business from these conferences Dennis?

At InterGeo2018, I had the opportunity to speak with you. Most of the exhibitions are specific groupings and I am sure that there are computer hardware exhibitions which are generally large, such as CES2019, that I decided not to attend next week in LAS. INTEL had a very large booth at CES2018 that I attended last year. Another large conference that I have attended is the NAB show in LAS with many booths with cinema and broadcasting data processing. Many of the large vendors may not have the type of systems that you might be looking for in your business.

I have noticed that forums are places that have illustrated computing systems that might be significant data processing improvement.

There have been several threads on the LSF that address processing systems.

https://www.laserscanningforum.com/foru ... 69&t=10612

Many others that I am probably missing on this forum.

Because I do not attend exhibitions or conferences to specifically attract business, but generally to see what we can learn to partner with friends, observe new tools, and to become more productive in our business.

Received my round trip United Airlines to InterGeo 2019 for US$1,540 including taxes and fees, which seemed like a mistake. HNL to IAH, IAH to MUC for a few days and then the DB to Stuttgart on Saturday. Return home on Friday, September 20 from MUC to SFO, SFO to HNL at 18:51PM HST.

Hope to see many of you there.

Approximately two months until InterGeo 2019 and a bunch of user group meetings before it in Munich and Stuttgart, but a week from today, I will be in San Diego, California for the ESRI UC. It should be the largest GIS exhibition/conference almost anywhere on the planet. I will have the chance to see some small scanning/imaging devices to interface directly with ESRI ArcGIS. I probably will not post anything, since most LSF members have not been interested in ESRI threads in past years. All of my images would be taken in Red Hydrogen One 3D HV4 format anyway and not viewable directly on LSF threads.

Dennis,
Gis is something very specific. I think that most of the people here are into scanning, bim and general surveying.
The power of gis is immense but one can only occupy themselves with a few niches.

I've always wanted to start with documenting all my surveying jobs in autocad map but never got around to it. Too much other stuff going on!
