this week the international exhibition on maritim industry took place in Hamburg, Germany. We were joining the SMM on two of four days. It was interesting how many laser scanners were shown on the different boothes. Most of them by engineering and designing companies who are using laserscanning today for their own refit jobs they are doing for customers.
As a start up company, also looking to that area, I was a bit afraid of that finding. So I decided to talk to some companies and figured out, that of all scanners just 1/3 is in productive operation and nearly no one is able to process the laser data in a professional way.
So my conclusion is:
1. the laser scanning community should take care of their skills
2. New companies, engineering, desining, architecs are comming up with laserscanning services to complete their portfolio
3. We should more and more be prepared to offer data processing without doing the scanning jobs...
4. Cooperations are more and more important..
Looking for your feedback..
Post details about exhibitions or conferences that may be of interest to other members. This will help gather support for the industry.
