CES 2017

Post by dhirota » Mon Aug 29, 2016 3:37 pm

I attended CES 2016 in Las Vegas this year and it was learning experience.

Number One: If you plan to attend, be sure to stay at the Venetian Hotel and not pay US$1,000 per night. If you register now without a connection, the Venetian will be US$1,000 per night, and my gold card at the Marriott or Hilton will be US$500-600 per night. If you wait too long like I did last year, nothing will be available near the exhibits and you will stay at the Golden Nugget for US$200 a night and a cab $50 one-way and 30 to 60 minutes depending on time of day.

Registration for CES 2017 opens on Sept 6, and the exhibits are Jan 5-8 2017

For some reason, I received an email that I thought was ransomware that allowed me to get a suite at the Venetian, Jan 4 to 8 for US$379 per night.

Hope to see many of you there at CES 2017

Thad

What are you interested in at CES 2017? Maybe you should attend as well.

It seems that most of the people on LSF are not interested in the things that I am looking at like "Big Data" processing, AV, VR, 3D Color Printing, high quality 3D HDR imaging and 3D imaging visualization through surfaces at exhibitions like CES 2017.

Jed

I had a "Mole" attend Siggraph this year since it was expensive and in LAX. I am planning for 2017, so maybe this year there will be something new in software at Siggraph.

Unrelated to CES 2017, this week I am in Ann Arbor, Michigan attending the University of Hawaii-University of Michigan football game this Saturday.

I will be visiting research places on the University of Michigan campus, where I studied and received my BS, MS, and PhD in Civil Engineering 45 years ago. A group of friends will be visiting the UM 3D Media Lab and trying to see the research on a new 3D camera. The last time I was here several years ago, there was a bunch of research work on 3D visualization in construction which we will check on.

Thad,

Registration for CES 2017 opened today.

For some unknown reason, I registered as an Exhibits Plus Pass-Non-Member, which allowed me to register for a fee of US$0.00 instead of US$100.00 which I paid last year, and wait two weeks to get approved as a legitimate consumer electronics person to attend the CES 2016 exhibits. This year the approval was instant.

Talk about crazy exhibition/hotel room rates.

A friend decided to wait until today to try the Venetian and it was US$1,000 per night. I told him that I would try the email that I used August 24th to get the Venetian at US$379 per night. The VIP email is now US$839 per night, which is still cheaper than US$1,000 per night.

Enjoy the exhibition guys,
the room rates are crazy! On the other hand if I don't stay in the aforementioned hotel for three weeks I can buy a new scanner! :D
