Newcastle Uni: Terrestrial Laser Scanning Course
Designed to meet the needs of industry professionals from a broad range of backgrounds, this course, run in association with Leica Geosystems, introduces fundamental terrestrial laser scanning concepts and practices. The course reviews the basic principles of laser scanning, exploring practical surveying methodologies and scenarios. Emphasis is placed on best practice control/registration strategies and underpinning surveying techniques.
Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is becoming an increasingly prevalent and affordable technology for a range of industry professionals, from topographic and engineering surveyors to archaeologists, architects and forensic investigators. This course will introduce participants to fundamental background theory, explaining TLS development and scanning principles. Building from this, emphasis is placed on TLS best practice methodologies, from theoretical survey concepts through to implementation.
Course material is delivered through a combination of short lecture style presentations and hands on small group practicals, utilising state of the art laser scanning hardware and software. Those attending this course will emerge better equipped to exploit the full potential of this rapidly emerging technology, with an improved understanding of best practice working principles. Participants should have a basic understanding of land survey practices, although extensive experience is not required.
Course Outline
The course runs over three days, and will be conducted in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, encouraging practical interaction through a number of exercises, with opportunities for discussion. The following aspects will be addressed:
