I found this guide from RICS – Virtually Real: terrestrial laser scanning to offer an interesting perspective on laser scanning – its limitations and benefits. RICS is a standards body, that quite frankly I have never heard of, but which appears to be focused on “advancing standards in land, property and construction”.
It got its start in the UK, but is now international in scope. The site is copyrighted by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which explains more about who they are and their interest in laser scanning.
Unfortunately I was not able to access the link they provided – www.rics.org/mapp. Give it a try and let me know.
