Hi, We have a vacancy for a technical imaging specialist at the HSE's Science and Research Lab (Health and Safety Executive), based near Buxton in the Peak District. The main focus of our work is the investigation of work place accidents, often involving serious injury or death. As part of these investigations many visual techniques, including laser scanning, are used to capture details of the incident scene. Scans will then be used to create CAD plans/models/animations as required for the investigation and associated legal proceedings. Other aspects of the job could include high speed photography, CCTV analysis, 3D modelling etc. We are looking for a candidate with experience in at least one of these areas and the willingness for on the job learning of other techniques as required.

We are looking for a technical imaging and visualisation specialist to join our Advanced Imaging Solutions (AIS) team in the Major Hazards Capability Group. This is an excellent opportunity to use your skills to contribute to innovative work to support HSE incident investigations, and valuable HSE and industry research projects to directly improve the lives of people in their workplaces.

You can expect to contribute to a diverse range of projects within the health and safety sector, especially HSE incident investigation support, and also expect to be involved in work for industrial clients.

You will be part of a team of imaging specialists but will also collaborate with technical experts across many other disciplines.

You will be expected to attend incident sites across Great Britain at short notice, and some overnight stays will be required.

Your technical responsibilities will include:

• Flexible working to support more experienced staff with technical imaging and visual presentation work, which may include: computer 3D-modelling, high-speed video, visual presentation, laser scanning, CCTV analysis, aerial imaging, and photography – training will be available to meet individual and/or organisational needs.

• Supporting incident investigations, including fatalities, working with other agencies such as the Police and attending incident sites as appropriate. This will involve travel and overnight stays away from home.

• Supporting the development of commercial work by engaging with potential customers, contributing to the development of work proposals and presenting technical solutions to both technical and non-technical staff and customers.


Person specification
We want you to be:

• Willing and enthusiastic to learn, including through on-the-job training a range of technical imaging and visual presentation techniques employed by the team by the team such as: computer 3D-modelling, videography, forensic visual techniques, high-speed videography, laser-scanning, CCTV analysis, photography, aerial imaging, visual presentation and those disciplines covered by this post that you do not already possess.

• Able to write clear, high quality, accurate documents such as witness statements that are suitable to be submitted as evidence if required.

• Capable of maintaining accurate, auditable records - e.g. of visual data produced or analysed by themselves or other members of the team.
Licences
Full driving licence that permits driving within the UK. However, we are willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants with disabilities that would allow them to do the job by other means.
Qualifications
A degree or equivalent relevant experience in one or more of the following disciplines: computer 3D-modelling, videography, forensic imaging techniques, photography, laser scanning.
