Revit questions in regard to point cloud
I am new user so if any question seems silly please do not laugh.
I use Revit 2017 version.
1. When i insert a point cloud is ther any options to clean it and remove some unecessary items ?
2. When i want to draw an element (e.t.c wall) is it possible Revit to best fit it from cloud points or do it manually ?
3. Where is the section line command ?
4. Any blogs or on-line learning courses it will be highly apreciated as we have not much free time to learn it.

Re: Revit questions in regard to point cloud
Hi Ioannis,
In respond to your questions,
1. Autodesk Recap is one option for cleaning and prepare a point cloud before you open it in Revit.
2. There is an extension called pointsense for revit, its very expensive but it really worth it. In a few words you can model a point cloud in automatic. Also check some videos in youtube.
3. You can find it in the architecture label.
4. This is the best blog to learn anything about Bim and point clouds. Check in home page.
I hope this helps you.
pd. sorry for my English

Re: Revit questions in regard to point cloud
1. You will need to do cleanup in Recap and then insert the cleaned point cloud in Revit.
2. From what I know, you need to manually trace over the point cloud to create walls. There are other tools such as ClearEdge3D, PointCab, Leica CloudWorx for Revit that do best fit to create walls.
3. I am not sure about Section line command.
4. I found a few videos on youtube but on-line learning courses are far and few in between.

Re: Revit questions in regard to point cloud
Hi Ioannis
3. no, Revit can’t generate a 2d vector section from the point cloud as you have seen in the autocad tutorial.the word “section” in the revit’s world means a point of view of the 3d model, not a 2d geometry itself. except for some specific tools ( detail line) nothing in revit is 2d.
my last 2 cents: don’t forget that Revit is a software BIM oriented, so its aim concerned about relationship between objects and it’s not the most power software to model the objects.
ciao

Re: Revit questions in regard to point cloud
Hi Ioannis
All the answers regarding your queries are listed below.
1. Autodesk Recap is the best option to clean and make the point cloud-ready to work in Revit.
2. As you are a newbie in Point cloud to Revit modeling work, I will suggest you work manually. It will help you a lot to get a clear concept about the
process of this work. So in the future when you will use some automated plugin you can check the model and do the changes as needed.
I am working on Point Cloud to Revit modeling for more than 7yrs, but still, I work manually. I am continuing my freelance work also like this.
You can visit my website https://www.adbim.co.in to see some samples. Also, check the attachments.
3. Regarding Section Line command please check the attachment.
4. You can follow this youtube link. It will help you a lot.

Re: Revit questions in regard to point cloud
1. Autodesk Recap only. This has already been told to you.1. When i insert a point cloud is ther any options to clean it and remove some unecessary items ?
2.There are various programs. A lot of them. And they are all paid. And they all work for 3 points out of 5. They will work well in a perfect cloud. When the cloud is a real object - there are places where elements are hard to see. Programs cannot cope with such places. Do it all by hand. (You can add scripts yourself)2. When i want to draw an element (e.t.c wall) is it possible Revit to best fit it from cloud points or do it manually ?
No section line in Revit.3. Where is the section line command ?
Read this article. CUT PLANE is an analogue of the section line.
I will soon write an article about this and post it on my site. I’ll briefly tell you. For example, you should configure it like this:
Top: 2500 - Irrelevant
Cut plane: 1500 - is "section line".
Bottom: 1400 or 1450 or 1499 It's the most important. You make a narrow range.
Level: 0 - Irrelevant
You get a section line.
I recently started my blog. But I did not have time to describe everything. You can ask me questions in private messages. I will help you.4. Any blogs or on-line learning courses it will be highly apreciated as we have not much free time to learn it.
