Showcasing terrestrial laser scanning projects

Post by bertazizoglu »

2020 has been a busy year for the growing NUBIGON community.

In this thread, you'll find videos of a few terrestrial laser scanning projects visualized and animated with our software.

We'll kick things off with an example from Milan, Italy. Our partners Microgeo have captured the Milan Cathedral and its immediate surroundings during the first wave of COVID in early Spring and produced the following fly-through video with NUBIGON.

A detailed description of the project is available on RIEGL's blog https://newsroom.riegl.international/20 ... di-milano/

Sticking with the church theme, we're delighted to share a point cloud flythrough of the Greek Church "Buna Vestire" from Brăila captured by Graphein (https://graphein.ro/), visualized and animated with the software NUBIGON. The newly restored historical monument combines the Byzantine style with the Renaissance Gothic style, impressing with its special architecture.

A brief description of the site, courtesy of Graphein:

The "Buna Vestire" church from Brăila has been built between 1862-1872 with Alexandru Ioan Cuza's permission for its establishment. Avram Ioannidis of Prussia was the architect of the church, designing it in the form of an inscribed cross, with a high bell tower on the facade of the church and three Holy Tables: the central one - in honor of the Annunciation, the southern one - in honor of St. Nicholas, the protector of sailors, and the northern one - in honor of St. Gerasim of Kefalonia. A miraculous spring lays under the St. Gerasim chapel, which was discovered in 1863 under the foundation of the church. On the crypt facade, where the spring is located, there is an inscription that reads: "The Greek community in Brăila laid the foundation stone of the Greek Church of the Annunciation, on September 8, 1863."

Today, I'd like to share a fascinating project by Adam Havkin. His video below effectively demonstrates the project scope with a clip animation, peeling open the building like a dollhouse. Take a minute to enjoy this point cloud collected with FARO scanners visualized and animated in NUBIGON.

The "Reduta" Palace (one of the oldest buildings in Cluj-Napoca, dating from the sixteenth century) that houses the Ethnographic Museum is currently being digitized.

The museum has recently been scanned by Graphein (https://graphein.ro/). The point cloud flythrough has subsequently been prepared in NUBIGON.

The quality of point clouds we encounter day-to-day varies immensely. So it's always a joy to come across a high-quality capture like this one:

Data & video courtesy of Ole Jorgen Hallo with NORDGEODESI https://norgeodesi.no/ Capture with Trimble X12, animation with NUBIGON.

If you have a project you have meant to showcase but couldn't find the time for it, today may be the time to get started!
