Quality check of DWG VS. Pointcloud

Post by MalteHC » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:38 am

Hi All

I have a drawing department, that draw DWG plans, from pointclouds. The drawings are done in X,Y,Z and my job is to make the quality check. Currently i either check them in MicroStation or Revit, where i make crosssections, to see if the lines is placed correctly in Z and afterwards i control the line in X,Y in a topview.
But this is very timeconsuming, to manually make 1000 crosssections.
Does anyone of you have any experience in this matter and have figured out some smater method for the quality check?

Hi mate,
How about a colormap inspection showing the distance between the point cloud and the drawings?
Would that make sense in your case?

The DWG is just vector lines and not a surface, how would you control that acccording to a curb, placement of pavement or so? Keep in mind, this has to be done within 1-2mm.

Then, the idea would be to compare 2 sections.
1st section would be the one delivered by the drawing department.
2nd section would be a section cut of the point cloud in the plane of the 1st section

I'm curious too! I have the same issue with comparing point clouds to Revit. At the moment, I use Navis works to bring both the point cloud and Revit model in and then cut sections and manually compare.

I would start step by step. And then, if everything seems ok, would write a script to create the sections and run the inspections
If possible on your side to share some data, I can have a look and start writing it...
