Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
As a first kick at the can, that is pretty good. Will be paying attention to this.

Hi Dennis, I have a R200 (previous generation), also a Structure sensor, but neither have the quality of your scans.
Out of interest, what is the range for the 415 ? Can it scan anything beyond, say 30ft ?
Also, what are you using in order to scan stuff ? Does it come with the SDK, or is it a 3rd party ?
Thanks for sharing your tests !

Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
I think the maximum range for the INTEL D415 is 10meters, but it seems to depend on illumination and site conditions. I try to limit the range to 3 to 5 meters.
I am using the INTEL D415 attached to my Surface Pro with two small pieces of velcro. You need to check out the web site for what is available including the SDK.
I am testing some software.

Hi Dennis,
Wow, looks pretty interesting. I have played around with the Asus Xtion sensor, but the REALSENSE D415 looks much better especially with the supplied calibration kit.
Have you tried it with FARO SCENE Capture yet ?
Regards,
Mike.

Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
I have been playing with a similar setup (i.e. Surface Pro and D-415), however, I have been using a beta of the Dot3D software from DotProduct. If anyone has used their Phi3D software, I believe this is going to replace it and it works really well. Same simple interface and relatively easy to use. I feel like the Xtion sensor has a small edge when looking at the scans in terms of accuracy and "crispness" of data but I have scanned outside in the sun with the D-415 so in effect, it is a trade off I can live with.
Eventually, I will also post some shots or a vid of how it works.

Not having a FARO, I have not tried it.mike annear wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 7:17 am Hi Dennis,

Dot Product is showing the REALSENSE D-415 here at InterGeo 2018. They also have a Panasonic with a D-410 and GNSS unit.

Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
Hi Dennis,
Faro Scene Capture is free, it works very well with the Xtion sensor, I am assuming (hoping) it will work with the D415
Regards,
Mike
"" SCENE Capture
SCENE Capture is the application used by FARO to drive the FARO Freestyle3D sensors. In Addition, other 3D sensors are supported as well.
The main task of SCENE Capture is the registration of single 3D frames to compose larger sceneries. Objects can be scanned from different sides by moving the sensor around the objects and rooms by panning and moving the sensor inside the rooms.
SCENE Capture is optimized for the usage on tablet computers with a touch screen. The application guides the user through the scanning and post-processing for various hand held sensors. The results are visualized immediately to provide a real-time feedback. The user is always aware which parts of the scene are captured already.
The post-processing functions improve the results using global adjustment (bundling), stray point removal and color adjustment.
There is no limit for the scene size – except disk space.
SCENE capture can detect marker plates during scanning and processing to improve the registration results.
The data generated by SCENE Capture is compatible with SCENE. SCENE and SCENE Process come with functions for registration and meshing of multiple scans.
Captured scenes may be exported for further processing with third party applications.
SCENE Capture is free and requires no license. ""

Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
Hi,
Has anyone taken this any further ? I am thinking of buying one of these sensors but can justify it if it is the same as the Asus Xtion sensor that I already have.
I was doing some "Full Body" scanning last week for a movie prop house, the Asus Xtion still works quite well.
I will show some images when I get permission.
Regards,
Mike.

Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
I have the Intel 415 on a laptop that I am beta testing. It has i7 with 32GB RAM, GNSS, 8Mpxl RGB camera, and beta point cloud capture software running W10. We will attempt to interface it with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and other software applications.mike annear wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:37 pm Has anyone taken this any further ? Re: INTEL REALSENSE D415
Hi Dennis,
It will be great to read your thoughts on this sensor.
I downloaded Faro Scene Capture 2019 today, (free) I notice it has presets for the Intel RealSense sensors.
It would be great if you have time to test that combination as well.
This would make for a very cheap 3D scanner ! Good enough for very quick measurements where mm accuracy isn't needed.
Regards,
Mike.
