What is the longest range, photo based hand scanner?

Post by Formula1982 »

I'm trying to build something new and to make it work I need a 'live feed' like you'd get from a video camera stream, but of 3D data. Doesn't need to be terribly accurate or high resolution. I'm imagining something like the output of the live feed you get from a Kinect sensor, but I need something with a much longer range. Ideally 50m+. The use of this kit, and why i'm looking for a handheld type scanner hardware, is because the subject will be moving but the 'scanner' held fixed.

Is anyone aware of any hardware on the market which can do something like that?

The closest I've found so far is the Eyesmap 3D which has a 100m range supposedly, though I've never seen one before and have no idea if it actually calculates the 3d data on-board, or if its recording photography which gets post processed afterwards. Anyone seen one of these units in action? Would obviously need to hack something like this, if it does capture the 3d data and not just photography, so that I can try and extract a live feed of 3d imagery.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

I have Steve, the only issue is I understand what to do with data in 3D much better than I do photogrammetry. It may be an easier way to go.
But I wouldn't know where to start finding hardware or software that can give me live tracking of 3D geometry with photogrammetry.

There's no such thing, AFAIK, as in 100m.

There are smaller range, real time 3D scanners, like GeoSlam Zeb1 or Revo, which are getting 20m or so.

But those are using a combination of SLAM and a small 3D scanning unit, like a Velodyne Puck or Hokuyo which are limited by design.
