scanning in hard conditions

Post by cerene_olivier »

Hello

How many of you realize scan under very hard conditions ( dust / humidity / heat / cold ....) ?

Which kind of scanner is the most appropriate ?

I used ZF Imagers / Leica HDS and I got ( and still get ) issues when temperature is too warm or too cold ...
And dust can make pointcloud quite noisy ....

Riegl are known as very best in this area . What about other scanner ?

Hi Oliver,
We have a Riegl VZ-1000. I have just undertaken a number of scans in extremley dusty conditions, on one day it was so dusty the scan would not penetrate it. I have not used the scanner in anything lower than -1deg but I understand that the scanner will operate at -40deg.
Regards
John

I've used the Faro Photon in very dusty and hot conditions, but I'd think twice before using a C10 as it has fans that suck in the air to keep it cool.

We had trouble using the old Scanstation 2 in cold temperatures. We blasted it with warm air in the footwell of the car and this brought it back to life. It was only about 0 to minus 2 degrees centigrade!

In case of cold temperature, with a 6000/7000, I keep the scan ON as long as possible in a warm place before starting working in cold.

I know what you mean .
I recently had problem with overtemperature and It take me more time to cool down the scanner that to do scans itself ...
But it is the reason of my question
I have enough to spend most of my time in other thing than scanning when I have a scan project to do.
It is usually complicated enough to realize ...
