On a side note (regarding Paul's post with the WebShare Cloud screenshot) we have a tool in place to counter this in software:

WebShare can mix color image values and gray image values (derived from laser intensity) in a single view (screenshot below).

Image

The amout of color/gray is controlled on the fly with two simple buttons.
This way you can work with the data nicely no matter how your color image suffered from tough lighting conditions. You can try it yourself, the project Paul is using as an example here is public: https://emea.websharecloud.com/

Sorry don't want to highjack this thread but I thought this was worth noting as it was brought up as an issue.

Daniel,

this (although not anything close to HDR ;-) is a great tool, do you guys think of implementing it in Scene as well? It could save couple of overexposed (does it work with underexposed too?) colored scans!

Cheers
Jiri

We also believe this is a great tool. As you say it is not HDR but you can control it interactively to modify the look of the data as you need it for your task. Would make perfect sense in SCENE of course ;)

We use both P20 and Focus everyday. The P20 when used outside and with changing light conditions, (which happens every second in the UK) regularly gets hexagonal blocks in the final pano even when blended, this must be down to the sheer number of images it takes and then tries to blend.

Unfortunately this just doesn't look very professional in the final truview. The faro images always come out good.

@digital surveys: was that taken with auto-exposure on? I think setting the exposure manually should get better results.

Is the camera on the Faro built in? also I am interested in the resolution of the panorama that the Faro takes.

I've got a large P20 project coming up and havent yet updated the latest Firmware (with the white light balance),. I'm hesitant to do so without time to test.

Any opinions / experience with improved imaging with the P20 firmware upgrades?
