That was the single best workshop I have attended at any conference...ever.

Just some thoughts that come to mind. Relaxed & Fun, educational, collaborative research project, contributed to the overall content of the conference, and we got to blow stuff up!!! :P If the results of the large scanning effort that took place are half as informative as the field experiment then they should provide a great source for further study.

Good to hear Jonathan. Is that a registration for next year? Should have brought those cantaloupes after all!

It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts

Yeah, maybe we should just bring the cannon next year and use it for some sort of impact study!

Finally got to meet Wess!

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and speaking with Gregory Walsh, Ph.D. from Leica, during the IAFSM conference.
Not only was he obviously brilliant, but a real joy to speak too.
Dr. Walsh is the lead designer (to the best of my knowledge) on the C10 - the P40.
Tremendous knowledge and very personable.

I agree Dr. Gregory was brilliant. It was very nice to have him present and answer questions. Hope he has time to attend in the future.

Ananda Fowler's (Riegl) presentation was also one of my favorites. All the nerds were on the edge of their seats soaking up the super technical information like a sponge :ugeek:

I was impressed by both of them. Very cool to have the guy that designed the scanner in the room.

Hey Guys,

I am finally back home and trying to settle in after this past week. It would take me far too long to write up all the highlights that made the conference for me. Each day was special in its own way and the variety and calibre of presentations was excellent. I can't say enough about how professional everyone was. I don't think I have ever been to a conference where there were as many questions, comments, suggestions and discussions going on. We kept running out of time!!

So, in no particular order I want to express my appreciation to:

-The San Diego County Sheriff's Office for helping to organize the bomb blast workshop. It was spectacular and we all had a good time.

-The sponsors/vendors who we lean on so much for information and participation. It would not do any justice to single any particular sponsor out of the group. They were all excellent and were participating even amongst themselves. I am hopeful that next year Leica will join in and reinforce their commitment to forensics.

-The workshop presenters such as Eric Richie (Autodesk), Sarah Gale (GSSI-Ground Penetrating Radar), David Dustin (FARO Workshop) and Tan Nguyen (Riegl workshop)

-The speakers who ravelled from all over the U.S., Switzerland, Australia, Brasil, England, Canada...thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to support our group.

-The IAFSM Board of Directors who assisted us in putting this conference together

...and many more...

I'll leave you with one image I put together of the blast workshop. Eventually, I'll get the edited version of the GoPro cameras up on YouTube and will post.

Safe travels and thanks for making this conference a success!

Eugene
