2.5D volume calculation

2.5D volume calculation
Thanks to EDF's support there's a new 2.5D volume calculation tool in preparation for the next release:
Basically it computes the volume by projecting one or two clouds in a 2D grid. It works well for stockpile volume estimation, and more generally with any cloud acquired from above. When a single cloud is used, a constant height can be set as 'ground' height.

Yes you can use a single cloud and define a constant height as 'reference' (0 by default).

Daniel, fellow forum members, I need some help in understanding this process. I'm new to volume calculations with 3D scans
This is my cloud. It is an already clipped excavation from a sloped site. The clip was executed all along the ridge. When I run the calculate function using only this cloud, this is the result. What I'm after: what exactly is this function calculating on this cloud. Is it creating a surface all along the highest points on the outer edge to create a 'ceiling' so that I'm ending up with the accurate amount of excavated soil?

Not a CC user but the report suggests a regular grid of cells at a 0.1m interval are used to calculate the point cloud part of the volume. Not sure how the the base/top surface is created, in SCC we'd create a 3d polygon for this and mesh it to create this surface. In this case I see that 'Ground Before' is set to 'Constant' which suggests a fixed elevation to me which may not be what you are after.
